6/26-28/06 Check in

Monday and Wednesday gym OK, food pretty much. Tuesday, I worked out at home. I'll have to start being more diligent on food, though.

Check In - 6/22 - 6/27

So it took me a little long to get back on the wagon than I thought. But as of yesterday I am officially back on the slow track to physical fitness. And I have learned something today. I am still out of shape. A hard lesson to learn in deed but at least I did so with out injury.

See, I have been (unsuccessfully) attempting to follow a workout routine based on one of those DVDs you order from an informercial late at night. As it is from a company with a decent track record I have no doubt that it works. And considering how I feel after the workouts I it only adds to that confidence. But I tried something today that I should have known better than to do. I tried to do the 3rd level today in an effort to kick up the work out. How wrong I was as 10 minutes into the 59 plus minute workout I felt a tingle in my lower back. Nothing painful or anything but just a tingle. One that my better judgement told me not to ignore. So I stopped and jumped on the bike for 25 minutes. 300+ calories burned and I feel good about my day so far. Tomorrow I'll be back to 2nd level 47+ minute workout. It doesn't make my back tingle. But it does leave me tired as shit.

Food wise... I eat. That's about it. Though in that regard I'm starting to think I should give LA Weight Loss a try. Hey, say what you want about it but it's less than Nutrisystem...

6/22-25/06 Check in

Got back into the swing of things, at least as far as exercising. I've been working at upping my cardio, for better conditioning. That, and I learned a few months back that following heavy resistance training, cardio helps to burn more fat and get a more toned look.

That would all be great if I weren't erring so much on the diet side of the equation. THere are two things that this weekend made obvious: restriction of alcohol intake and better timing of meals would go a loong way toward a larger number of "full compliance" days.

6/19-21/06 Since I Been Gone

Travel rocks. It also sucks. Especially when it's a meeting where you sit around and listen to people talk. A lot. And all you have to keep going is some combination of sugar fat and caffeine (sodas, coffee, cookies, etc.) At least at this hotel there was a relatively well-equipped fitness center.

That said, I absolutely did too little exercise and too much food. Travel is rapidly becoming of the worst things I can do in order to stay the course. However, I did manage to see part of Oprah (yes, Oprah) while I was gone. It was a weight-loss show where they had people who were great success stories. The takeaway message, other than "You can deal with this. Get past it. Work it out," was that it's not a diet or exercise product, but instead a decision. Her trainer said that anyone who answers the "Can/will you do this?" question with "I'll try" won't make it. Instead, the answer is not "I will," but some variation of "I've decided."

So awhile ago, I decided that this is what I was going to do. I decided that instead of being the blobular desk jockey typing away my life, I would be the model/pornstar fit desk jockey typing away my life. So I just have to keep reminding myself of this periodically.

Check In - 6/17 to 6/21

Been slacking off this week for various reasons (getting new tires, cleaning lady coming over, etc.) but it was a workout changing my tire on Saturday. Between the watching the highway, my awkward position to do so and change the tire and the pain in my knee from kneeling in the gravel of the shoulder I think it counts. Considering I was pretty tired afterward. Road the exercise bike today so that should count for something too. Don't worry now that things are relatively back to normal I will be back on the wagon tomorrow.

6/16-18/06 Check in

Friday (6/16) was a really good day on both fronts. The weekend, not sos much. I didn't so a heavy workout of either day, but I did at least eat in a manner appropriate for the lack of major activity.

However, my checkin and topical post for 6/19-21 promises to be a little bit extra.

Check In - 6/12 to 6/16

Been working out everyday except yesterday. I just wasn't up to it. I was wore out. Monday I slacked slightly by just doing 25 minutes on the bike and then a stretching routine. But I figured doing 30+ minutes of something is better than 0 minutes of nothing.

My diet sucks. I don't eat nearly enough. I average about 2 meals. I should be doing 5 to 6 small meals. Instead about 2 medium sized meals is about all I get in. I should join nutrisystem or something so I don't have to worry about it...

Update: Forgot to mention I also drank way too much beer on Monday. But I barely ate so it probably evened out. I think I'm getting my tolerance back. 10 beers and no buzz. That right there is a problem...

6/14-15/06 Check in

Wednesday was a day off, so I did the responsible thing and moderated on eating. Thursday was really good on the exercise front, and I slipped on food by eating too close to bedtime, which also caused me to push back the workout time today.

6/12-13/06 Checkin

So Monday was a good day. Didn't eat too much, and got my workout on. Tuesday was another story... CousinFuule was in town, and we commiserated over some adult beverages. Exercise - check. Caloric intake - not so much.

6/11/06 - Check In

Worked out this morning. Which since Thursday has been a grueling 50 minutes. Being out of shape sucks.

My diet sucks. Rarely do I eat to much. More likely I either don't eat enough or I eat the wrong shit. Today I ate. That about all there is to it. Though as I sit watching the NBA finals and reading comics while the sun makes it way to the other end of the valley, I feel like I need a beer...

6/9-11/06 Checkin

Friday I worked out as planned. Took Saturday off and did some light strolling on Sunday.

Ate/drank more than I needed to thanks to fraternity and alumni meetings... food and socializing.

6/9/06 - Check In

Been working out all week. Well, at least since Tuseday. Mostly aerobic stuff to get the blood flowing. And though I almost procrastinated my way out of it I worked out this morning as well. I'm tired. And in an hour I have to leave for work. The achy days of beginning a workout routine.

Tomorrow: the off day. Then back to the grind on Sunday.

Checking In- 6/8/06

Exercise: day off.
Diet: entirely too much- friends were in town from the midwest, west and east coasts. This led to dining out on seafood, with the butter and the sauces.

Tomorrow: plan to kill it for Hamster Time (treadmill) after lifting to failure instead of just reps.

WTF Is the "Thanksgiving Project"?

This is a whole 'nother kind of blog. When I started doing the fitness thing, the original plan was to have me lose a pound a week and hit a (fictitious) target weight by Thanksgiving of the following year. Suffice it to say that I was far more ambitious, and this blog is result of that effort. The premise is simple: I and other folks who got tired of being fatasses run this blog. We try to post daily about what we're doing about the problem, and on occassion, about where our heads are at.

With any luck, I'll be able to put up (half?) nude pics on MySpace, Black Planet, or A**Finders by this Thanksgiving....
